Sugar and Spice and Everything that’s not so nice’- A book that reflects upon a Serial Entrepreneur’s Journey of Start-Ups: Authored by G. Ramachandran

For those who say success breeds contentment I may be the anomaly that just got added to their list of discoveries.

Plush corporate corridors, expensive suits, jet setting across the world in five-star comfort and luxury, I had it all. But had I reached my destination, was the question that plagued me then. If this was what people aspired for, why was I not engulfed with happiness, elation and the desire to rest on my laurels?

While people regaled in the word success and all that it entailed, life for me proved to be a bundle of contradictions. It gave me a harsh jolt when I was at the very pinnacle of success, leaving me vulnerable and reactive.

What was it about the success that lashed out at me and shook me and never allowed me to rest on my complacency? I could sense a high degree of restlessness, and a deep craving to give it all up. This recklessness was not looking for an anchor in the mountains and sainthood, albeit that had its own charm, but that was not what I had in mind then. The gnawing feeling that I was consumed with, compelled me to give up everything and start my corporate success story from scratch. Somewhere down the line, the fascination of a regular job and working for others had lost its charm. I wanted to venture into what would be MY enterprise.

Sugar and Spice and Everything that’s Not So Nice: A Serial Entrepreneur’s Journey of Start-ups!

So was I the starry eyed individual who believed that a leader in the corporate world had the pre requisite and stamp of success to make his mark in the start-up world? In hindsight, probably yes, as part of the bravado stemmed from that. The rest, I must admit was passion and the confidence to branch off on my own. The excitement of jumping headlong into the vast sea of possibilities that was beckoning me, to launch my own voyage of discovery and success, made me heady with exuberance.

The birth of an idea can be both extremely invigorating and incredibly risky, more so, when it involves embarking on a start-up. At the beginning of your voyage you are like a rudderless ship steered by the winds of your passion and where being “at sea” assumes a poignant, realistic proportion.

The picture of the choppy sea and the wind lashing at the stern of the ship was not out of a novel that I was reading, as I soon realized. I could feel the cold damp
